Orange you glad it is Friday?

Yeah I know the title is a bit on the corny side, but I couldn't help myself! The title may be corny but the polish I have for you today is far from corny. So let's get to it.

Today I have a super fun polish to share with you from KBShimmer, it is called Orange-A-Peel. My sweet friend Lynn sent this to me for Christmas. (Thank you again!) She and I share a brain 90% of the time, only she is the nicer part. This polish is a glitter filled crelly. The base color reminds me of a sherbert orange and it is packed full of orange, pink and white glitters. It is part of their Neon Collection that was released last year. Here are a few shots of it for you.

I had a hard time getting my camera to pick up the true color of this polish. As you can see this polish isn't one of those typical bright as heck neon oranges, it is a nice subdued neon orange. You can use it on its own and get full coverage in 2 coats, or layer it over other colors to get a different shade of orange all together. Below on my index finger it is 2 coats layered over a coral color, the middle finger is 2 coats alone, ring finger is 2 coats over white, and the pinky is 1 coat over a primary orange polish, all topped with 2 coats of Seche Vite.

You can see in the pictures that over the white it takes on a more neon look. Alone and over the coral it seemed to be that almost sherbert orange color, and over the primary orange it went to a gorgeous almost pumpkiny color. With orange being my all time favorite color, I really loved that I could get such different shades out of this one polish. Now that I am looking at the pictures I wish I had done a nail with it over a bright yellow too.

The formula is wonderful, it went on with no fuss, and there was no fishing for any of the glitters. There was no curling to any of the glitters either. KBShimmer has one of the best crelly bases that I have used! I did have to use a topcoat with this polish. It wasn't really snaggy, but when it dried there was a medium amount of texture to it. I could see me sitting and picking at it if I hadn't put a topcoat on. It dries pretty quick and has a semi matte finish to it, which I expected it to have since most neons are matte. I personally like the semi matte finish that it has. I don't think they carry this particular polish anymore, but there are a few other orange crelly polishes that are just as fun as this one. 

KBShimmer is an indie company that carries a nice variety of products. They carry polish, handmade soaps, sugar scrubs, lotions, whipped body butter, lip balms, and bath bombs. They have their own site or you can also visit their shop on Etsy. Their prices are very reasonable, shipping prices are reasonable, and their TAT is currently 2-3 business days unless you buy bath bombs then it is 5-7 business days. For handmade products that is an excellent TAT. I personally haven't bought from them yet, so I can't really speak about the packaging for items being shipped. I have messaged a little with the owner and can tell you that their customer service is great. You can find their facebook page here to see what's new from them.

I have watched this shop for at least 6 months and now I am kicking myself in the tush for not buying before. They are a company that carries so many things that I love, polish, bath and body products, and lip balms. Anyone who knows me knows that I enjoy all of those things to the point of almost hoarding LOL! I hope to make an order with them soon and grab a few things to share with you in the future. I am going to rate them today on just this polish alone.

Ruby White Tips Sugarbush

Hey all! I have been down with a migraine for a few days, but I am feeling better. I have a gorgeous polish from a newer indie polish maker that I think you will love. I won this polish in a giveaway on the Ruby White Tips fan page, it is my first polish from this company. 

This is Sugarbush...

Sugarbush is a beautiful violet polish with tiny holographic glitter, tiny holographic bar glitter and a sprinkling of small gold hex glitter. In the picture above you can see how tiny the holographic glitters are. This polish went on terrific, no problems at all. It was opaque with one coat, but I used 2 coats to get that rich violet color like in the bottle.

All pictures are 2 coats of polish with no topcoat. There is a very slight texture to the polish, but it wasn't enough to bother me. I have had this polish on for 2 days now and have had no chipping or tip wear even with all my mom duties. 

I really do love this shade of polish, it isn't too purple and it isn't too pink, it is the perfect violet shade. I also really like the color with my skin tone. Laura did a great job creating this polish! I look forward to trying more from her and sharing with you. She really loves what she does, it makes me want to spend my money with her to see her company grow. 

Prices are very reasonable at $7.50 for a full sized bottle. She has 2 polishes, Peekaboo and Poppy,  that 50% of the proceeds go toward helping bats. She also has a mystery box that contains at least 2 nail polishes and other surprises, it sells for $12.50. One thing you wont find many of is glitter topcoats, I think there is only one available and one flaky topcoat. I really enjoy seeing a company that is making polishes that aren't just glitter bombs. Though I do love my glitter bombs ;o) Laura is always up for the challenge of creating a custom color for you too. She and I tried this a few months back when I was wanting a true orange holographic polish. I still feel bad that I was being so picky, she tried her best though!

I'm not sure how to rate this polish since it was a prize. I have dealt with Laura as a customer previously though, and her shipping with my prize was great. So based on those factors I will give my experiences with Ruby Whit Tips...5 cupcakes!

I am a spoiled brat!

I hope everyone had a great holiday with their family and friends. I know I sure did! The girls and I made a total of 11 different batches of cookies, fudge, pies plus some other appetizer type foods for our big family get together on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas I made a pretty low key dinner that included turkey, stuffing, mac & cheese, real mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole and corn. Mom and Lisa had spent the night with us and then Dad came over to eat with us. It was a really laid back nice day. 

Here are a few pictures of the girls and Lisa opening their gifts. Lisa was so excited that Santa knew to bring her gifts to my house. The girls even played along with her excitement and pretended that Santa had brought them gumball machines. I hope one day they will realize the happiness that put in my heart.

 I was spoiled beyond rotten by some of my friends and family. Some of the packages I got were parts of swaps and secret Santa exchanges, but I decided they were all gifts since they mostly came on Christmas Eve haha! These pictures are the contents of 4 packages that came on Christmas Eve from my good friend Jessi, Gillian in Ireland, my secret Santa Traci, and my December nail pal Katelyn.

This picture is of the packages from my friend Jade who is in the UK. One of the GOSH holographic polishes is for my friend Robyn, it has been one of her biggest lemmings. I was so excited to be able to arrange to get it for her!

Yes that is 2 bottles of Fantasy Fire and GOSH holographic! I also got a Kinder Happy Hippo, but ate him before I got pics. I was definitely a happy fatty when I saw him!

These pictures are of the package from my friend Lynn who I share a brain with. I think she and I were secretly separated at birth or something, we can probably finish each others sentences. It is so funny how much we think and respond alike, we are always telling each other to "get out of my head!" She spoiled the girls and I and even Rowan rotten.

Icing polishes

I laughed so hard when I saw the bag of all these orange polishes. I had been on a hunt for a true orange creme polish. I could picture Lynn going from store to store grabbing all the orange creme polishes LOL. Also LOOK! My very first KB Shimmer polish!!!!!! If you don't know, orange is also my favorite color.

OH I almost forgot I also got the Zoya Holo-Day Cheer Dream Box for myself for only $4 using my share the love points. It has the colors Aurora, Blaze and Storm in it. I think the Ornate collection was my favorite collection from Zoya this year.

The girls got me a Whitney Houston Christmas CD, because they know I love her. Hannah made me a sweet slideshow on the computer and some cute necklaces. One of my sisters gave me the cutest little crock pot, another sister gave me all sorts of cute cupcake themed stuff. My friend Rebecca gave me a couple pairs of earrings she made, they are too cute! I will have a post just for those though. I got to visit with my friend Marisela who flew in from California. I knew I missed her, but didn't realize how much until we hugged and didn't want to let go. She has been a true gift this year to the girls and I.

I can't wait to play in my polishes! I am beyond thrilled with everything I received from my family and friends. The things that I enjoyed the most were being able to enjoy time with my family and laugh, and knowing that I have good friends that love me despite how twisted I can be.Watching my 1 year old great niece eating cookies and fudge I had made and saying mmmmmm then giving me cookie goo kisses. My great nephew Gabe who is 3 rip his shirt off to put on his new scratch and sniff shirt that smells like peanut butter and jelly. That is what the holidays are all about love, laughter, and creating memories to carry with you.

Trying to make sense of it all...

I debated on if I should make a post about the senseless shooting here in the US and stabbing that happened yesterday in China that has taken so many and permanently scarred countless others. I am not going to debate gun laws or politics in this post, I will however give you my thoughts. I would appreciate that any comments left not be left in anger, but be respectful and uplifting the memory of those lost yesterday. I will delete any comments that are not, we never know when a family member of one of these children could be reading, so I thank you in advance.

When I logged onto facebook I never imagined that the very first thing I would see was reports of yet another gunman, let alone a gunman in a school...an elementary school. My heart sank and I made it to the living room where I stayed glued to the TV for what felt like hours, and in reality it probably was. My mind raced from the horror that those poor babies went through to just wanting my own kids home with me, to the families of those 20 babies. Tears fell and at times, many times, I sobbed seeing live footage of distraught children being led out of that school by emergency personnel.  The parents arriving, the looks on their faces and some falling to their knees out of fear. My heart broke into a million pieces today, my heart hurt and ached for the innocence that was ripped away from so many, the lives that were taken too soon, and the families who are left behind to try to pick up the pieces.

I thought of how empty my life would be without my girls, how would I ever be able to go on without them here with me? How are these parents going to find the strength to go on without those precious angels? I watched as President Obama wiped tears from his eyes while speaking to the nation and I felt sorry for him and at the same time so proud of him. At a time when I'm sure all he wanted to do was be with his family like most others wanted to do, he was standing addressing the nation. I thought about my nieces and nephews, then to all the grandparents, aunts and uncles who now have a huge hole in their hearts. I thought about Rowan (a little one I watch) and how much I wished I could tell her that I love her and see her blue eyes twinkle.

I started to get angry, very angry that someone could be so cold and heartless. As quick as I got angry, I got sad for that man. I am sad for him because he had to be in a dark dark place to do what he did. I am sad that he did not get the help he so obviously needed to have before this happened. I am sad that his remaining family will have to live with the fallout of his actions. I am sad that he felt taking the lives of those children and adults was an answer to his problems. Then I go back to being angry and then to thankful. Odd that I am thankful for something in a situation like this! But, I am thankful, thankful that he took his own life. I know that sounds hateful, vengeful and cold. What if he hadn't done that? How many other children and adults would have lost their life?

What do we do from here for our kids? First and foremost, love them, hug them, show them any chance you get that they mean the world to you. Talk to your kids! I know we want to shelter them from all the bad things in the world, but don't fool yourself into thinking that you can. With the technology now they may know before you do, their friends may bring it up to them. We don't have to give all the horrific details to them, but we do need to help them by listening to their thoughts and fears. In talking to my girls I found out that 2 times a year they do a lock down drill, but neither have ever been told what to do if someone is actually in their classroom. They had no idea to lock the door if the teacher couldn't or wasn't in the room, they had no idea they could use the phone in the room to call for help. They are just told to huddle in a corner of the class, they aren't told anything other than that. PARENTS TALK TO YOUR KIDS! Tell them to not open the door for emergency personnel unless they see an ID that is slid under the door. Tell them that turning desks over in front of them is ok and that it can help protect them. Tell them that if they have to work as a group to move furniture to block the door that it is ok. Tell them that if they have to use something and break a window to get help it is ok. There are so many things we can tell them that could possibly save them and others. Talk to your child principal and ask them to tell you their protocol in case of a situation that there is a gunman in the building, ask questions, provide some feedback. This is something I will be not only asking the principal, but also the teachers.

I am still very heavy hearted, sad, angry, devastated by what happened yesterday. I know there is not much I can do to take the pain and heartache away from all those who are grieving the loss of their child, parent or family member. What I can do is educate my kids and pray for all those people affected. Even if you don't pray, send some healing vibes their way, light a candle, have a few moments of remembrance for them. I can show love to those around me. Do something nice for someone around you. Something as simple as buying a coffee for the person behind you at Starbucks, buying lunch for a friend who is down, visit a nursing home and do manicures, make sandwiches for a homeless shelter, help scrape the ice off the neighbors car. There are so many simple things we can do to show love, simple everyday things that will brighten someones day.

This is a mani I did last night to honor all those lost yesterday. It isn't the best artwork, but it came from my heart. May you precious beautiful angels rest in peace. May the families find strength, peace and understanding in the coming days. My heart and prayers go out to you.

Jindie Nails Candy Cane

I have a polish to share with you today from Jindie Nails called Candy Cane. It is a beautiful white based polish with different size and shaped glitters in red and green, it even has large matte red glitter as well. This polish is part of their Santa Claws Collection that has 9 different polishes.

I was very selective with which polishes I grabbed from indie companies holiday collections, mainly due to a lack of funds. I browsed and browsed some more until I had a few picked out that I had to have, and Candy Cane was on top of that list. For me it was the perfect combo of red, green and white for the Christmas season. I set out on a mission to get it, luckily I caught a restock and grabbed it up. I bought a mini sized bottle, the price is great ($4.25) and I knew I would only need the smaller bottle since the colors are too Christmasy for me to wear throughout the year.

For this look I started with Sally Hansen Insta Dry in Whirlwind White and then 2 coats of Jindie Nails Candy Cane. You could also just use 2-3 coats of Candy Cane by itself and have good opacity. I didn't use a top coat on this one because all the glitters went on nicely. I could barely feel the glitter when I ran my finger over it, so I knew there would be no snagging. I did have to fish for the larger matte glitter, but that is pretty typical of polishes with larger glitters. I really love all the teeny tiny sparkly green glitter in this polish, I think it adds to the Christmas magic feel of it.

I wore this polish for 3 days and had no chipping and really no tip wear to speak of, since I didn't use a topcoat with it. I had several compliments on it from people at my doctors office and then my moms doctors office. I even had to write the name and site down for 2 ladies. 

I had excellent customer service, though shipping was slower than usual Jen is keeping all of her customers updated regularly on her progress with orders. She included a letter with orders apologizing for the delay and also the changes she plans to make for faster shipping when she opens up again. Jen has graciously owned her mistake in doing pre orders on some of her polishes and is doing her very best to correct it. I applaud her character and her drive to make things right and keep her customers happy. This is a handmade business, people will make mistakes from time to time, just like any of us do. I think we should try to remember in our frustration that these women/men are usually a one person show, they are growing and learning. As frustrated as we can get, imagine their frustration and heartache when they know their customers are disappointed. For me, part of the great thing of buying indie/handmade is seeing a business learn and grow. So thank you Jen for being so loyal to your customers and doing your best to make things right!

Candied Violets for Yasmeen

Today I have a gorgeous polish combo to share with you. I will admit it took me 21 hours (Thank you Lynn for keeping track for me LOL I love you!) to decide what my undie color would be. I already knew what was going on top, but had a really hard time finding the perfect shade for under. Now I will tell you something, that color decision could have changed at any given minute depending on my mood. I think most folks who are polish addicts can attest to this happening to them as well. So here is what I ended up with. Starting with the top first, just to be different today.
Candied Violets is a glitter polish made by Hit Polish. The mini size (5ml) are $4, but keep your eyes open for sales. Rachel is always doing something special for her customers!

I can think of tons of color combos for this one!
This is the description given on their listing: A clear base with super fine orchid holographic glitter, fine matte white hex, small matte aqua hex, small white hex glitter, medium baby blue hex, medium matte lavender hex, large pastel green hex and large bubblegum squares. 
My description: A purple lovers paradise!

 I can't tell you enough how much I love the polishes from Hit Polish! They are so easy to apply they seriously go on like a dream. You can barely feel any texture from the glitters on your nails. I've never used a topcoat with any of my Hit Polish, and I've never had an issue with raised or snagging glitters.

I paired Candied Violets up with Yasmeen from Zoya.

 I got Yasmeen in one of my nail pal packages and am in love with the color. It is a gorgeous purple with lots of red shimmer and a bit of gold shimmer to it. I'm not always the best with descriptions so here is the official description from Zoya: Dark blue-toned purple base with very strong red-toned medium purple shimmer and hints of gold duochrome. The ultimate complex purple for maximum drama.

I have to admit I have had this on for a few days now and am a little sad to take it off. I truly love this combo.

Silly Last Minute Thanksgiving Dinner Tragedy

So Sunday my family had our Thanksgiving dinner and Dad's birthday. It was pretty much a last minute plan thrown together due to some family having to work on Thanksgiving and others who live hours away from the rest of us being in town. Normally Thanksgiving is something I love to plan for, shop for and cook for. Usually it is my mom and I who do the majority of the cooking and then the cleaning afterwards too. This year not only was it last minute, but I am just not in the mood for festivities. I have so much stuff going on that the Grinch seems to have taken possession of my body and spirit. Not to mention my anxiety issues with crowds and being crammed in a tiny place. 

Sunday morning came, my alarm goes off, and.....I turned it off. So an hour and a half later I wake up and run to the kitchen to throw the turkey in the oven. Half way there it hits me, I feel like a truck of manure has run over me. My chest hurts I'm all rattly and wheezy, I have that oh crap I'm sick cough going on. Now mind you I have been doing this for over 2 months now, I just can't shake this whatever it is that keeps clinging on to me. So I get the turkey going, praying it gets done in time. My phone rings, it is the neighbor wanting to do their laundry. I explain that I have to be out of the door in just a few hours, and what happens? Yep you guessed it, there they are at my door baskets in hand. I honestly don't mind under normal conditions, but today of all days, Ugggggggggggh!!! I smile and give the polite "You know where everything is" and try to go about doing what needs to be done. NOPE, he wants to chit chat. OK fine, I chit chat, smile and nod, finally he leaves. Oh did I mention that I am still in my PJ's commando????? Yep sure was, and boy did that feel awkward hahaha! I get back to the task at hand only to minutes later here my phone ringing, it's mom wanting to shoot the breeze. Finally hang up with her only to have another knock at the door, neighbor again with more baskets, and yes I am still commando. Repeat this same scenario a few more times and add in random text messages, kids and cats. Oh and in between all of this I STILL HAVE TO DO MY NAILS!!!!!!!! 

I finally decide on what I think will be the perfect easy as pie mani. OPI's Suzi Loves Cowboys topped with Silly Lily's Candy Corn. I had swatched it the night before on a nail wheel and it looked amazing! I grab the OPI bottle and get to painting only to realize I am using the wrong color. Take that off and start again, one coat, two coats, dry dry dry would ya. Nope this girl has no quick dry drops or sprays, but after this I will be buying some. Finally it is dry enough to put the glitter on. I start putting it on and it just isn't going on as easy as it did the night before (insert pouty lip here), with every swipe the glitter is just coming off WHY WONT YOU STAY PUT?????? I keep fighting and finally get it on and let it dry enough to put my Seche Vite on only to look up and see I now have 15 minutes to get to my moms with the food that is still in the oven. Carefully I pull the turkey out of the oven and sit it on the stove, throw the pot holders on the counter. Ummm they are stuck to my fingers, OMG my nails are all messed up on my right hand. I have no time to fix it, so we pack everything in the van and take off. Hannah is in charge of watching the pies that refuse to set up in the whole 15 minutes they had before we ran out the door. She yells "Mommy the lemon pie is all to one side!" my response you ask? Tell her "I don't care what you do, just don't let it get all over!". As we are driving I see one of my elderly neighbors walking back from the little neighborhood store a mile up the street. I can't let him walk all the way back, so I tell the girls we are taking him home after I get Granny's cigarettes.  By time I come out of the store it is raining, cold and windy. I rush back to where he was walking and he is gone, so I have to drive almost home to turn around. Get to moms and start to get out, where the hell is Hannah? I'm starting to panic thinking maybe she got out at the store and I hadn't realized it, nope she had decided to get in the way back where the pies were. 

As usual we didn't start dinner on time, probably an hour or so later than what was planned. I did my best to keep at the outside borders of the crowd in moms place, you know so that I could escape if needed. Let's see in total there were 22 of us crammed into an apartment sized living room and kitchen, that isn't even all of us, some didn't or couldn't show up. We ate, celebrated Dad's birthday (a day late), talked, laughed, and I only had to escape a handful of times. 

What about my nails? Well I am not going to give a full review of the polish itself because I don't think it would be fair to. I had to do such a rush job and messed some up because they were still wet. I did love the combo though, so I will try it again soon. I will show you a picture I was able to snap before the tragic circumstances happened.

Seahorses, Skin Food and Eyes...OH MY!

As promised yesterday I have a post using one of the polishes from one of my awesome Nail Pen Pals. Of course there are a few other things to share with it, I'll be bringing you more posts about some of the other products/companies I used for this mani, so stay tuned for those.
I used Skin Food's Nail Vita BL505 Green Apple as my main color. This polish goes on like a dream!

Skin Food Nail Vita BL505 3 coats no top coat

 I used 3 coats in the picture. I have to tell you that it is a sheer polish, but can be built up with more coats. I am not a fan of sheer polishes or having a visible nail line normally, but I didn't mind at all with this polish. I have read some reviews that call it a jelly polish, but it isn't as thick as most jelly polishes that I have used. I would consider it a sheer creme, but it definitely could be used like a jelly. I have to admit I was mesmerized by how shiny it was even with no top coat. I definitely recommend grabbing a bottle if you can, I love it that much!

Here are my nails topped with Hit Polish Seahorse and a nail decal from RLR Creations. I Will be raving more about those two companies in several posts in the future. I just love the glitter combo paired with the polish, then add an awesome pair of eyeballs, cuteness overload!

There is no topcoat on over the glitter either, you don't need it with this polish. Everything lays flat and 98% smooth!

I intentionally put the decal upside down because I think it looks cute with crows feet LOL.

Sorry for the cuticles and dry skin, I can't seem to find anything that will help. It also doesn't help that I have picked up a habit of picking at the skin around my nails when I'm anxious. I do have something I plan on trying very soon, which is a cuticle creme made by Evil Shades Cosmetics.
