Awesome giveaway over at a friends place

Christmas In July Giveaway

My friend and fellow blogger Shelby is hosting an awesome giveaway on her blog. She is giving 4 prizes out in the amounts of $30, $20, $10, and $5 to any indie/small company. They don't have to have shops on Artfire or Etsy but it has to be indie companies, no Sephora, BBW, Itunes or stuff like that. This is a great way to get your favorite companies names out there or shops that you are dying to try out. It is also a great way to find out about some other great companies by reading the comments. Make sure to read all the rules before entering, although it is all pretty simple to do. She is giving you up to 6 entries so whatcha waiting for? Oh yeah the link to her blog would be helpful just click below and you're there.

What are you waiting for?

You May Say I'm a Thinker

Someone once told me I am a philosopher and even today I wonder if that was a compliment or not. I can tell you from years of experience that the way my mind works is not always a blessing, sometimes I actually think it is a curse. Lately I have found myself thinking of my past. If you care to take a trip into my life then buckle up because it can be a slippery ride.

Well let me start with saying thank you for staying with me, I appreciate that you are interested enough to stay.

I have had a lot of people on my mind lately, thinking of how different my life would have been without them being a part of it. Mostly thinking of how grateful I am to have had them be a part of my life, how I am the person I am today because of them.

My Grandma Nona who was my maternal grandmother. She passed away when I was just a few months old so I never knew her. My mom talks about her mom a lot, before my Grandpa Cook passed away I would just sit and listen to him and my mom talk about her. I know there are those who will disagree with my feelings but I have to say how I feel. my Grandpa Cook loved my grandma with all his heart, I heard it in his voice, I saw it in his face when he talked about her. He called my mom every single year on my grandmas birthday and they would talk about her for hours. I have learned through stories that my Grandma was a hard working woman who was full of love and life. She was one who tried to take care of everyone, and she had no problem stopping on the side of the road to pick a huge bouquet of wildflowers lol. I wonder if I am anything like her, do I have any of her qualities?

Garfield (Uncle G) was one of my dad's best friends. He was someone who also tried his best to take care of everyone, he had a heart of gold and always had a smile on his face and a laugh in his heart. I never got a chance to tell him how much I loved him or how much I appreciated the love and the many hours of lost sleep he had because of worrying about me. He always knew the right things to say to me even though sometimes it wasn't what I wanted to hear. I wish my kids had been older so that they could remember him, his laughter, and how much he loved us.

Jessica my friend, my partner in crime I miss you! We had so much fun together, even though sometimes we did things that were questionable it wasn't illegal. OK most of the time it wasn't illegal. Jess has a heart of gold and one of the strongest shoulders to lean on. Trust me I used it many times. She also has opinions for hours and she says what she thinks, and I love that about her. We spent endless hours together talking, laughing, crying, and eating. Thank you, I don't think I tell you enough how much your friendship means to me.

Kris Wolf what can I say about you? You are one of a very few people who made me feel like I was important. You are such an amazing person and I miss you like crazy, I miss eating your healthy food then going on junk food raids haha. You made me think outside of the box, you pushed me to be a better me without even realizing you were doing it. You were the one person who made me feel confident that I was good at my job at the Manor, you helped me fall in love with a job that I went into hating. To think I only agreed to working there to help my sister fill staff not because I wanted to.

My sister Gena oh how you have been on my mind lately. Gena passed away when I was a teenager. I look at my girls and think of how much they are missing out not knowing her. She was a simple person and I mean that as in she was happy with what she had, she didn't need expensive things or money to make her happy. She didn't have the easiest life but I don't think I ever heard her complain. She was just as happy sitting on the front porch of a 100yr old farm house with no running water, an outhouse, and bathing in the swimming hole as she was living in an apartment with running water, electric, and a bathtub. Now that I think about it she may have been happier at that old farmhouse, picking berries, watching the storms, and baking in a toaster oven. This is a woman who even when she was so sick and knew she didn't have much longer always tried to put on a brave face for her kids. I remember sitting on the couch with her maybe 6 months before she died and her telling me she didn't want me to forget her good days. The days where we would play in the rain, listen to radio, laughing until our ribs hurt and just having fun.

My Uncle Wayne who was one of the greatest men I have ever known. He was funny, goofy as all get out, he always had something to say or do to make someone laugh. He was just full of love for everyone he cared about. I don't think there is anything he wouldn't do to see the people he loved happy. I think the thing that sticks in my mind the most is how much he loved my Aunt Barb. He loved her more than anything in this world and you could see it in everything he did, you could see it in his face when he looked at her. I don't think I ever told him how much I loved him or thanked him for helping me have the courage to get out of a really bad situation. What I wouldn't give to have one of his hugs and be able to tell him. The shamrock I have tattooed on my hand is for him, his Bday was on St Pattys day, and now I will always have my good luck charm with me everywhere I go.

Well I think I have tortured you enough with my post so I will close this one for now. I do want to leave you with a few things to ponder on though. Make sure to tell the people you love that you love them, you can never say I love you enough and you never know when you wont have the chance again. As silly as it may seem keep a journal and make sure you describe the people in your life in great detail. I wish I had done that so that my girls could know just how amazing these people were. Over time I have lost a lot of the details that I want them to know, a smile, the way their laugh sounded, their scent when you hugged them. Later on you will long for those little details at least I know I do. Pictures, take lots of pictures. They will help capture at least some of those details that can slip away from you. You know the saying love like there is no tomorrow, laugh like no one is listening and dance like no one is watching? I can't agree with all of that saying. I think we should love like there is no tomorrow, laugh like everyone is listening, and dance like everyone is watching. I don't want to be remembered as someone who held back because of what someone might think about me.

Want to be tempted???

Missy's Tempting Tarts

Grubby muffin tarts 4 for $2.25

Anyone who knows me knows that I love all things that smell good. If you ask my kids they will tell you it is an obsession for me. They know they know the way to make me melt (pun intended lol) is chocolate, fountain soda and scented wax.

A recent order of mine

I found Missy's Tempting Tarts last year around October through my friend Judy who sent me the link to her shop. We spent probably an hour chatting back and forth about all of the scents we wanted to get since we feed each others addictions like true friends do, I think we both placed an order that night. Honestly I can't remember what I ordered but I can tell you I was hooked. Now I wont tell you how many orders I have placed since then because well in all honesty I don't think I can count that high haha. Missy is now known in my family as my tart lady or how I like to refer to her as my tart pimp.

1 oz tart cups ($1.00) and a 1oz Triple Threat cup ($1.00)

Missy has a website you can shop from here. On the site you will find products as low as $.15 and FREE SHIPPING to all US orders!! Yes I did say free shipping. Not only does she carry wax tarts but she also carries tart burners, candles and some bath and body products. Like her facebook page to find out new scents, contests, coupon codes, and when she lists new things on her site. Be sure to let her know I sent you.
Mini Me tart extras $.45

Now to my thoughts on the products and such...I love everything it is that simple but let me give you some details. The tarts are highly scented and you have your choice of wax type, there are so many sizes and cute shapes to choose from. I have also purchased the foaming sugar scrub and roll on perfume in the scent Cinderella which I adore. Missy sent me a sample of her lotion in Brown Sugar and Fig while that particular scent  isn't my favorite the lotion goes on nicely and is not greasy at all. I would definitely buy it again in a different scent.
Her customer service is top notch in my opinion. Missy is very interactive with her customers and encourages them to share their opinions on scents and products. For example I asked her one night about carrying Lilac and Lily of the Valley scents and in less than a weeks time there they were listed.
I have always received my orders quickly with only one problem. The post office delivered only the mailing label to me off of a package. Missy gave me store credit for the amount of that order even though it was NOT her fault at all.
Some of my favorite products you may ask...the extras section, that is where you find fragrances Missy is trying out, discounted tarts and my biggest weakness the $.15 extras. The $.15 extras are a way to try fragrances without having to buy bigger quantities, you can mix scents to create your own blends, or if you are like me you will buy them because they are so darn cute and smell so good.

Will I buy again???? Seriously do I need to answer that question? Yes I will definitely be ordering again and again and again.
Jelly bean tart extras ($.15)

I was going to have a second person write up a short review but I think I am going to just link you to another blog review. You can find it by clicking here.

Missy was good enough to take the time to answer a few questions for me to share here with you.
1. What made you decide to start making tarts/candles?
I bought them from a girl in Maryland and she said you should just make your own.  She sent me the stuff to try it and I did!  It was easy and it took a long time to get it right!

2. How long have you been making tarts/candles?
It will be 11 years in Sept.

3. Do you have another job besides making wonderfully smelling things?
I am a 5th grade teacher and a waitress.

4. What are some of your favorite scents/products that you carry?
I am a citrus person.  Love Lemon and Love Orange.

5. Is there anything new coming out that we should be watching for?
I am thinking of doing some new air fresheners and bath bombs.  I am always open for suggestions

6. Do you have any other hobbies?
I am an extreme couponer!  I have a garage full of stuff that I got all for free! I have been doing it for 18 years now.

7. Is there anything you want us to know about you/your business that we may not already know?
I do everyting my self.  I make everything other than the extras to order and I love love it.  The friends I have made in the past 11 years are just the best ever!! I always say I have the best customers!!

If you visit Missy's Tempting Tarts page on Facebook you will find a code to a 10% off sale today.

All opinions here are my own, all items pictured have been bought by me.

Sunday Sprinkles- Where would I be without Dad?

My dad

Today is the day that we take time out to honor all the dads past, present, and future. Now I know there are some who haven't had the experience of having a father in your life. For those people there might have been a father figure, someone who stepped up to the plate and helped you grow into who you are today. I celebrate all of you fathers and father figures today. I have been fortunate to always have my dad around, I realize how lucky I am that he was. I'm going to just tell you some things about my dad, I think it is the best way to explain just how important he is to me.

Me, dad and my girls

My dad is a Vietnam vet. I don't know much about his tour because he would never really talk about it. He has said that he saw things there that he would never wish on anyone. The look on his face when it was brought up was a look of sadness and pain so I never pushed the issue with him. As long as my dad was able to work he did, and not easy jobs either. He has been a soldier, worked at full service gas stations (do those even exist anymore?), co-owned a salvage yard, and driven dump trucks. I'm sure there are other jobs he has done that I can't think of right now.

Dad and Lenny one of his best friends who he co-owned the salvage yard with

Growing up I wanted to be where dad was, under the hood of a car covered in grease. Now that I am grown up I miss that smell on my dad, grease and car fluids what a scent. I remember mom making his lunch every day. The 2 things that I remember being in it were chocodiles and salami sandwiches with mustard. I'm sure there was more but those are what stick out in my mind.

my dad

Growing up we would load up in dads pick up or in moms station wagon and go to the river swimming a lot. We would have so much fun swimming, playing and just spending time together. I miss those times where things were so much slower and simple.

Dad, Becky, Ronda, Mom and me

My dad has always done anything he could to help me. Anything from lending me money to taking me to most of my OB appointments when I was pregnant with Hannah. He taught me some of my most prized BBQ tricks, how to change a tire, and what a little hard work can do. My dad supported my choices in life even when he didn't agree and was there to catch me the times I fell.

My dad and my girls

Not only has my dad always been there for me but also for my kids. He has done everything with them from preschool breakfasts to father daughter dances. He let them throw nuts out his bedroom window to the squirrels, shows them how to use tools, and tells them they can't have boyfriends until they are at least 30. I could never thank him enough for stepping up to the plate for me and my girls.

Thank you Dad I love you!!!!

Thank you to all the fathers, grandfathers, step dads, uncles, and any other father figures out there that has sacrificed for the ones you love. Thank you for working so hard for your families. Thank you to those who have stepped up in the lives of those who didn't have a father. A huge thank you to those who have been a positive male figure in my girls lives. Jeff, Jack, Kenny, Zach, Mr, Joggerst I owe each of you so much for trying to fill that void for my girls and I love each of you beyond words.

Happy Fathers Day

Fantastic Faces Follow UP Of The Neons

I present to you

on Fantastic Faces and the neons.

After giving a lot of thought to this I have decided that I need to continue publishing on this subject. I am not sure how many posts I will make in the future on Fantastic Faces and the whole neon issue. There are some issues that I have not addressed as of yet and feel I owe it to you to do so.

I want to say that I know that this has to be a very stressful situation for the owner of Fantastic Faces. My hope is that she will take the many resources that have been provided to her and use it to better her company. As stressful as it all may be for Ms. Steph I do not think it warrants the behavior she has shown toward myself and several potential customers, or people trying to help her. I personally have received 2 messages from the owner of Fantastic Faces since I made my post disclosing the ebay supplier.
While I can understand feeling stressed and upset I am not sure this is the best way to handle the situation. Of course everyone handles their emotions differently. I am just left to think these were sent as some type of intimidation tactic. Which if that's the case I've never been one to back down because of intimidation. Here are a few more examples of the bullying/intimidation that has happened on the fan page of Fantastic Faces.

Here are some examples of replies to messages potential customers have received from the owner of Fantastic Faces.

Here is a concerned person putting the FDA information right at the owners fingertips and her way of handling it.

Notice that someone is pointing out the difference in cosmetic safe and eye safe to her in the comments.
(This happens to be the owner of another cosmetics company)

I would like to add that the owner of Fantastic Faces has since removed most if not all of these posts and comments from her fan page.
Since we are talking about cosmetic safe/eye safe I thought it would be a great time to post pics from 3 different companies labels just in case anyone was wondering about it.

Notice the labels specifically state what each mica is safe for.
Even the labels on bases tell you what it is safe for

Here is an example of a mica label that has a note of not being lip safe.

I would say if a supplier or a cosmetic company refuses to provide you with a list of ingredients it isn't worth buying. Because as you see here reputable suppliers have listed ingredients and where it is safe to use right on the package.

I was hoping that this post would be to let you know that Fantastic Faces had stopped selling the neons and had decided to recall the neons they have already distributed. Sadly that is not the case. As of right now they are still offering these neon soap dyes to their customers.

Sadly that is not the case.

After posting this on her fan page Friday
and this on her fan page yesterday

Not only is she still selling them to customers, but she is also still offering them as a prize in a contest being held with Skittlezz Stylezz which you can see for yourself by clicking here.

Being that Skittlezz has been witness to all the happenings surrounding the neons not being safe in my opinion makes her just as culpable as Fantastic Faces.

I am happy to tell you that the Ebay seller has taken all neon listings out of their store,
you can click here to find their store. Unfortunately the seller has listed 2 different fluorescent soap micas as eye safe. You can find them by clicking here and also here. Very important also is that TKB has changed their listings for the neon soap dyes to make it so a buyer has to click a box acknowledging that they know it is not cosmetic grade and not to be used in cosmetics. To see these listings click here and search the word neon.

*You may notice at times some of the links on this post as well as my previous posts concerning this company do not work correctly. This only happens when the Fantastic Faces fan page is temporarily disabled by the owner.*

Sunday Sprinkles-I Lost My Support

I know I have been lacking in making posts lately so I apologize. I was down with my back and then mom got sick and was in the hospital. Both of us are much better now. Soooo here I am getting the party started again. Today I am just going to share a small story with you so I can BBQ and spend some time with the kids.

I Lost My Support

A tale of a girl, her dog and a bra

The day was Friday June 5th 2011 around 3:30 in the morning, the kids were asleep, the animals all curled up on the bed together. I decided I was going to take a shower. I as usual got all the things I would need to get dressed and laid them on the end of the bed. Off to the shower I go. As the first drops of water hit me I break out into song singing my own version of Love Shack by the B52's. I wash my hair and then goop it up with my deep conditioner, I love soft hair so I leave it on until I am finished with everything else. I move on to lathering my face with my bar of Black Magic soap which I also leave on for a few minutes. Now comes a problem do I use what is left of my Simply Sweet Skin creme soap or do I use the CandleLynn whipped soap? Well of course I decide that I am going to what is only the right thing to do use them both. So I lather one side of my body with the whipped the other with the creme at this point it smells like a citrus fruit salad exploded in my tub. I'm not complaining at all :o) By now I have changed the song I'm singing to Twist Again by Chubby Checker, and yes I was attempting to do the twist lol. While twisting and singing I rinsed off and got out and dried off. While venturing back to my room to get dressed I peeked in on the kids. There was Hannah flopping like a fish out of water and Sierrah on her back snoring with her mouth wide open. Looking as I go into my room there are all 3 cats and the puppy still curled up sleeping away. Such a sweet thing kids and critter sleeping away plus no one was forced to hear my singing, double win. I grab my lotion and slather away, making sure to get all the driest parts extra good. I grab my undies get them on then my PJ pants. Reach for my bra and it is gone, I move everything on the bed to look for it. I look on the ground, in the bathroom and even the living room not there either. Now I know good and well I put my favorite bra out to wear where the heck did it go??? I go and start questioning the animals who were not happy that I woke them to interrogate them. Frustrated I sit down in my chair topless and start thinking did I really sit it out or am I going crazy? Just as I decide that I must be crazy or we have bra stealing trolls in this apartment Patch comes up and jumps on my leg. As I look down I notice his cute little shirt is all twisted up so I go to fix it for him. That is when I realized I wasn't crazy, there are no bra stealing trolls, I hadn't lost my support at all. I only have a puppy who likes to cross dress. There he was in all his glory Aerosmith doggy shirt on and MY bra over the top of it. I couldn't do anything but laugh, how can you be upset with such a cute little face?

Lesson I learned... never think you have lost your support because you will find it in the places you least expect.

Neons Round 2/Fantastic Faces

DING DING DING

I was trying to be fair and give this company a chance to correct their mistakes of selling neon eye shadows, not listing ingredients and flat out refusing to tell customers what was in the stuff she is selling. Which BTW in the US there are NO approved neon eye shadows in case there is a question about that. Now that this company has decided to cancel my order, ignore a message I sent them, refuse help I offered in talking in IM, ban me from their fan page, and then continues to offer the neon shadows. She is calling people out on her fan page that have only asked questions about the safety of using the neons, offered her help, and even those who have only clicked like on a comment. I am beyond trying to be helpful and feeling sorry for her. Yes I felt sorry for her because I saw comments being posted that could have been sent to her privately first. I know if it were me and I had a bunch of people coming at me all at once in not such a calm manner I would get defensive. It is human nature that when you feel attacked that you put up a defense. I am not saying hers was the best defense strategy by any means, each of us handle things differently that's for sure. Just put yourself in her shoes for a minute and think how you would feel in the situation. Don't kill me yet, I am just trying to get why I was sympathetic across. Like I stated above I have since seen things that have made me change my decision to not name the company.
Since the company asks that their pictures not be used without their permission I will honor that. I will instead try to link you to where you can see these pictures for yourselves. Since I am banned from her page it may prove to be difficult. So here we go...

This is a company that by the owners own statement launched in March 2011
She has a fan base of a little over 400 on her page which you can find here. It seems her fans strive for the boldest brightest colors you can get your hands on. Which in itself is not a bad thing. I have heard a lot of complaints made from people about the lingo or text talk the owner and fans use, to me it just represents the targeted fan base the owner has. I know the bad grammar and the lingo can turn some off from purchasing. While it is not my thing, honestly if a product is good does it really matter what lingo a seller uses? I mean if a seller is happy with a certain type of fan base and doesn't care if that fan base is expanded or not more power to them.

The next thing I want to touch on is the lack of customer service. The owner refuses to disclose the product ingredients to customers, which BTW is against the law. When asked her response was it is just mica.

Now knowing what I know about makeup I know without a base mica has very little staying power. I also know that on an ingredients list from a supplier it doesn't just say mica.

I don't claim to know everything about formulating cosmetics, I don't have to because I only buy it not make it. Given the last 6 months of my life I would like to think I know enough to call bullshit when I read it.

Numerous times this owner has stated her neons are 100% safe for eye use. Well I am here to tell you they aren't and at least 1 of those neons she is claiming is eye safe is not. I have dug and dug to find the supplier that Fantastic Faces uses for her neons. I with 99% certainty have found that supplier. I sadly will tell you that the supplier is indeed selling most of their neons as eye safe. Others just state they are cosmetic safe, which as a responsible seller this should be researched to make certain what it is and isn't safe for.

This is an Ebay seller that is located in New York right here in the US. So this supplier should know the FDA guidelines since they are selling here in the US to companies who are in turn selling these products either as is or in some way to their customers right? Now I can also tell you that on a few of those neons that are now listed as for cosmetic use their descriptions have been changed at some point. So is it possible that the owner of Fantastic Faces unknowingly bought unsafe products? YES it is possible at first she may have, but as she has bought since revisions were made to the listing of at least 1 of those neons she is just as liable as the supplier.

This shows that the seller revised the description of the neon red in the listing on May 10,2011. I also know that a friend messaged this seller in regards to this pigment being eye safe and was told no it was not.

I have also messaged this seller and have not received a response back yet.

Now I know people are going to ask how is it I think I know the supplier so let me give you what I have found thus far.

These are the colors listed as neons from the Ebay seller which you can find their store by clicking here. If you click here you can see just how similar Fantastic Faces neons are to those listed on the Ebay link. if you click here you can see the neons in action. (Once again she has asked on her fan page and on her shop site that the pictures there not be used so I am honoring that.) Not to mention that the owner of Fantastic Faces Stephanie is an Ebay user and has purchased from this same Ebay store.

Notice that the seller leaving her feedback is the same Ebay seller I have been mentioning. Now let me show you where she has made purchases for the neons.

I'm not going to link you to every single transaction made between these 2 people it would take too long, but I will link you to where to look for yourselves just click here. I also encourage you to look at the actual listing for their neons for yourselves to see that there are some listed as eye safe, you can do that by clicking here.

I am not proud of some of my actions surrounding this whole situation, and I have apologized to the owner of Fantastic Faces in an email. I placed an order with this company so that I could see the labeling on the products, in doing that I was not completely honest with her.

After this email I placed an order for the set of 6 (3gr) neons for $30 and a pot of lipgloss for $8. With shipping it came to $41.50. Ouch that price is steep and normally I wouldn't even think to pay that much for something I would use let along something I knew I would not put on my eyes. Luckily there were a few awesome women who donated to help pay for the order in hopes we would now know ingredients if there were labels on the jars, which there should be. After watching people talk about the owner and me finding the supplier issues I decided that I needed to come clean with her as to who I was and offer her help and show her what I had discovered. Yes there had already been people sincerely try to offer help by messaging her or posting links to FDA regulations on her wall, and I am very proud to call those ladies friends. But like I stated before when you have numerous people coming at you from all sides and some of them in not such a helpful manner you feel attacked and ganged up on. The owner put her wall up and defense mode appeared.
The message that was copied and pasted was the one I posted above where a friend had messaged the Ebay seller.

Shortly after sending that message to the owner I received a friend request on Facebook and I accepted thinking that she was wanting to talk about the email and accept my help. Sadly that was not the case. In a conversation on chat she let me know that I would be refunded, that my email was drama, she wouldn't tell me her supplier, that she thought I was petty. I continued to apologize and tell her I was not trying to do anything but help her, and was told to drop it.

So I get up today to being deleted and banned from her fan page, along with her posting on her fan page the names of people she has banned from her fan page. I understand being upset, angry and many other emotions over everything happening, but to post the names of people she is banning, name call, and encourage her fans to do likewise is completely unprofessional.

I could sit all night and post screen shots of all the unprofessional things that have happened in the last few days on that fan page but do I really need to? I have shown the lack of research, lack of following FDA guidelines, lack of professionalism by the owner of Fantastic Faces. I have shown that the Ebay seller is selling products that are unsafe and not following FDA guidelines by doing as much, also their lack of response to my message to them about the neons. Before I end this post though I am going to give you one last link to look at, I will not post any of the pictures from this link due to privacy issues. If you would like to look for yourself you may do so by clicking here.

I am going to close this post now with a few thoughts. Just because a seller is selling things you know are not safe doesn't mean they are doing it intentionally. It is very possible that they are not being given the truth by a supplier. There are some very established companies who have encountered this very issue and still are going strong. As easy as it is to jump to conclusions try to give someone the benefit of doubt before jumping on the mob bandwagon. Lastly kindness goes a long way, it should always be your first reaction.
